GEACs General Membership Meeting

Join us at Redmond Elementary on May 29th for our upcoming General Membership Meeting!

Our agenda will include:

  • Welcome new HiCap families!

  • Address questions and concerns around the program or service models.

  • Find new members for our GEAC Board!

We are currently looking for new members on our board - if you are interested in making a change, our GMM will be a great opportunity to come and chat with us to learn more!

Previous Events

Our youth organization YAB planned and ran our 4th annual JRMF on February 24th at Redmond Elementary with great success! Thank you to all families who came out and helped make this an event buzzing with fun and excitement around math. We hope to see you again soon!

Join us for an evening on Dec 4th filled with festivity and food! Bring your own board game to share with other kids for the first part of the event, and come ready to play bingo afterwards. There will be mystery prizes for the winners!

Much fun was had at our October Family Board Game Night! Favorite games of the night were Coup (the card game), Minecraft (the board game), and Outfoxed. Join us next time!

Our two summer picnics were a huge success with 200+ participants in total in our two locations!

In our June GMM, we voted in our new GEAC Board. Congrats, and to a wonderful new GEAC year!

Turn-out was great at our May GMM! We had a chance to meet many new families and also welcomed Myra Arnone as our special guest.

Our Member Only Event on March 15th was a wonderful evening enabling support, exchange, resource share, and connection!

We enjoyed our Meet The Board Event on Feb 9th 2023, meeting our community, listening to concerns and answering questions!

We had a very successful and insightful event with Austina De Bonte on Twice Exceptionality on January 11th, 2023.

Summer Camp Resourcec Share and Parent Social

On December 8th we had our first in person parent event since the beginning of the pandemic at Redmond Elementary. It was a big success! We had a good turnout, great conversations, and representatives from several summer camp opportunities to chat with.

GEAC’s Youth Advisory Board (YAB) presented: Choice School High School Panel on November 18th, 2022, 5:00 PM

In this event, incoming and current high school students had the unique chance to gain firsthand knowledge from students that are currently in the specialized programs that LWSD offers, as well as ask questions. Having the knowledge to make an educated decision about which choice schools to apply to will ensure that students make the right choice for their learning needs!

On November 13th, 2022, from 4pm to 4:45pm, GEAC’s Youth Advisory Board (YAB) hosted a local non-profit, The Back to Bach Project, for an Introduction to Articulation event open to anyone grades K-5 interested in music.

“Executive (Dys)Function: Making Things Better”, Tuesday March 9th, 5:45 PM

Let’s face it: Our kiddos sometimes struggle more with turning in work than they do with actually doing the work. We feel like our child is in a constant audition for a starring role in The Absent-minded Professor. It’s a thing. Virtual learning has made the situation (much) worse. Join in while Lisa Van Gemert shares practical strategies and tips real families can use right away to support gifted students in today’s learning environment.

Beginner Western Music Theory, Sunday Feb 21, 4:00pm | 4:00 to 6:00 PM

Learn about the basics of western music theory - enhance your music knowledge which will help you understand music or play your instrument better. We will primarily be using treble clef during the class !

Kooking With Kids on November 15th | 4:00 to 6:00 PM

Join us for a fun cooking class from Tesla STEM’s sophomores. Learn to bake and understand how heat works in the cooking process! Also, an added bonus - Explore the chemistry of chocolate!

Zentangles Workshop on October 21st | 5:45 to 7:15 PM

Zentangles is a relaxing way to untangle from stress, anxiety, and helps focus and rejuvenate. Create simple and relaxing patterns in this Zentangle workshop. Following the workshop, join us for a Parent Networking Event!

Middle School Matters, Saturday, October 17th, 10:15- 12 noon

GIFTED PARENTING 101, Wednesday, Sep 23, 5.45pm

Join Carol Lewis, GEAC’s former president, for a discussion on the meaning and impact of giftedness on your child and family. Read Carol Lewis’s guest blog post and view her presentation here! Carol Lewis has been involved with GEAC for 15 years, and five of those as GEAC president. Carol trained as a clinical psychologist before turning her attention to parenting and volunteering.
